When disaster strikes, Appalachian communities come together. We are establishing a regional nonprofit dedicated to practical relief, rapid response, and enduring recovery.
Why We Exist
The mountains and valleys of Central Appalachia are home to some of the most close-knit, resourceful people in America. But the geography that defines our home also creates critical challenges when extreme weather hits.
Narrow creek valleys can channel inches of torrential rain into devastating torrents within minutes. Steep mountain roads wash out, cutting off isolated hollows from municipal water, electricity, and standard emergency supply chains.
Appalachian Disaster Response was conceived to bridge this vital gap. Rather than waiting for external national charities that may take days to arrive and depart once television cameras move on, we believe in building a dependable, regional network capable of standing with Appalachian families through the entire journey from initial mud-out to final recovery.
